In the summer of 1914, on the eve of the First World War, France called up their military reservists. Among them Joseph Lesage. He was 30 years old.
With four brothers and three sisters Joseph grew up in Moret, a little town South-East of Paris. Because of his exceptional artistic talent he was admitted to the Parisian Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. His reputation grew rapidly. At the age of 21, he was invited to exhibit his work at the famous 'Salon des Artistes'. Prestigious galleries in Paris, Lyon, Reims and Marseille followed. In 1910 he married Mimy Cheysson. The couple moved to Marseille with two daughters. Life was promising, until reservist Joseph was called to the front….
